1958 Gretsch Semi Pro Drum Set--Red and Black Harlequin Finish--Round for sale in G Wood, Mississippi

$550

This is a 1958 Gretsch Semi Pro drum set. The semi pro kits were designed for the working musician. They came with a bass and snare, no toms. This kit is finished in the red and black Harlequin finish which I believe was an option for 1958 only.
The bass drum is a 16" x 22" single tension drum. The paint is in good shape but does have chipping which you can see in the pictures. The hoops have a metal inlay which is very cool. There are no holes drilled into this drum so external spurs will have to be purchased if the buyer wants to play these drums. The heads are brand new and have never been used outside of some tapping to get tuned up. The drum sounds like a cannon.
The snare is a 6.5" x 14". The original strainer does not work. To make the drum playable, I made a plate which fits a brand new trick multi-position strainer. The plate is backed with felt so as not to disturb the paint on the shell and is made in such a way that no new holes were drilled in the shell. In other words if you take the plate off, a Gretsch 4 point strainer will fit in the existing holes and will return the drum to its original condition. I wanted to use the drum and could not stand the inaccuracy of the Gretsch strainer so I added the Trick. I used this kit once for a jazz gig and since it has been in storage. I really don't want to sell them due to their rarity, but I need to clear some drums out of my collection.
These drums are not for everyone. They are finicky and need all of the attention that typical vintage drums require. They are in working order and sound great. If you have questions, please feel free to ask.
